I always wanted an application that would give me all the files present in a drive or a folder. Should help me in identifying the duplicate files, hidden files, old files, large files and creating a inventory of all the files in a drive/folder.  So, I created one in my free time using C#.  You can download the application with given link -  GetFolderInfo.exe Application Requirements - .NET Framework 4.0 or above (Your system might already have this. If not, download it using given link) Office 2010 or above (Could be backward compatible with previous versions like 2003, 2007. Guide to Singapore

Singapore aka The Lion City This was my first travel outside India. Moved here in February, 2016 for a long term assignment. Government Singapore always ranks high in HDI (Human Development Index), GDP Per Capita, Income Per Capita, etc among developed nations. Very low unemployment rates and crime rates. It is safe to roam around in Singapore at any time, unlike some developed countries. Government is very swift and organized in its initiatives. Almost everything is digitized. When you are entering Singapore, don't bring multiple copies of documents. Just one set of copies will do. No one asks to submit actual physical copy to them (except during work permit registration where they require a copy of IPA letter). Employment Pass (EP)  In recent times, it has become increasingly difficult to get work permit in Singapore. Your employer will have to initially post the job opening in Govt jobs website ( https://www.jobsbank.gov.sg ) for minimum 14 days. If the employer doesn'

Bricked your external hard disk?

Note:- This blog post is in my drafts folder for a while. Today, I finally got to post it. So the events are not current. They happened in the month of July 2012.  If you are a person with external hard disk (where you store your collection of movies, songs and of course personal stuff), this post is for you. In fact, it is also applicable to those who store that kind of data on CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays, etc. I had a Seagate Go Flex 2 TB External Hard disk. It was almost filled to the brim. It was like I can't even remove one file to place an another. One day, a friend asked it for some data. I handed it to him as I always do when somebody asks me. In the night on the same day, he called and said that he tripped over the power cable which eventually caused the hard disk to fall from his computer table. It isn't working now. I was shocked to the core. I was angry, skeptic and didn't know what to do . I asked him to hand over the hard disk to me next day, so that I can

"Shift+Delete" by mistake

It has been a while since i wrote a post. But today i came across an experience, which i think will be useful for many. We know that we can delete a file/folder by just selecting it and pressing "Delete" button. If it is done by mistake, you can restore this file/folder from the recycle bin. If you are frequent user of a computer, you know that on pressing "Shift+Del" you can delete files/folders permanently from the computer. We can't restore these files from the recycle bin.  And what if you delete a file/folder permanently by mistake? "I know that it happened with most of you" . Well, it happened with me yesterday. I was preparing some document. After completion, I deleted the draft file (at least that's what i thought). After 5 min, I realized that i deleted the final copy. Also thanks to my habit of "Shift+Delete". I don't want to waste hours on that document again. This happened with me in the past. But most of the

Microsoft Experience - Hardware Service Centre

1 Year back:- Bowing to my desire to own a wireless combo (keyboard and mouse), I bought one. After many rounds of search in Nehru place for a combo that matches my taste, finally went for Microsoft Desktop 2000 Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Combo . Costed me around 1350 bucks, but truly worth every penny. Review:- The design and build quality is too good. Surface texture is awesome. That's just from outside.Inside, there is much good stuff. There are 5 "Favourite" buttons on the keyboard which you can customize to quickly access any folder or program with a single stroke. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to buy a wireless combo.  Just a piece of advice - Even-though the mouse has a slot for two batteries (AA), you can use the mouse on a single battery which keeps the mouse "light". Otherwise, 2 AA batteries will make it too heavy to lift or move. Present:- Something went wrong. The transceiver (which connects keyboard &

The Dark Passenger

If you have seen the Cartoon Network in your childhood, then the word "Dexter" would remind you of that infamous animation series Dexter's Laboratory  in which a short little boy (Dexter) who is always busy with his scientific experiments and also tries to keep away his mischievous sister "Dee Dee" out of his secret lab inside his house. If you don't know about him, that's too bad. It's a great animation series. But today it's not about that Dexter. This is about  Dexter  a.k.a Dexter Morgan. This character is from the Top-Rated TV series Dexter . The series is about Dexter Morgan who works as a blood spatter analyst in Miami Metro Homicide who also moonlights as a serial killer to satisfy his urge to kill. Due to disturbing incident in his childhood, he gradually develops this urge and loses his ability to feel emotions (especially empathy). His foster father, who is a cop, noticed these urges in him and teaches him a 'Code' on

The Autowala

It was September 4th (Tuesday), Gurgaon . I woke up and heard the sound of drizzling rain. Hoping that it would stop by the time i step out for the office, I got ready in an hour. Still raining. Unfortunately, I forgot my umbrella at my home (Andhra) in the previous week when i went on vacation to Ongole. I have a Adidas cap which can protect me from getting cold, pneumonia, etc. But it can't stop from my formals getting drenched. No choice. I had to leave for the office, I was already late.                                     Took some monetary change for the share-auto and my ID cards. When i came down the stairs, aunty (house owner) in the ground floor asked me whether i need an umbrella. I am amazed at her benevolence. Considering my previous experience with the rude owners of Gurgaon, she was always good to me. But this is more than 'Good'. Maybe it was the good side-effect of the Tirupati-Laddu and swee
